UCCCB organized an initiative on the role of culture collections of biological resources in society and in the future
On October 30, the University of Coimbra Bacteria Culture Collection (UCCCB) organized an initiative at the UC Exploratório – Centro de Ciência Viva da Universidade de Coimbra on the role of biological resource culture collections in society and in the future.
The programme included a workshop on ‘How to boost the national PtmBRCN/MIRRI-PT infrastructure’, aimed at culture collections (staff and collaborators), and a round table on ‘What is the role of biological culture collections in society and in the future’, aimed at the general public.
The main aim of the workshop was to answer, in groups, questions that would clarify the necessary steps for a collaborative journey and greater visibility in the industry, as proposed by the participants. The session was moderated by the coordinator of UC Business, Luís Silva.
The round table, which was open to the public, was attended by the vice-president of the Centre’s Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC), Alexandra Rodrigues, the executive director of the Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure (MIRRI-ERIC), Ana Portugal Melo, the deputy director of FCTUC, Sandra Carvalho, the director of the biobank at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT), Ana Paula Ferraz, and a post-doctoral researcher at ARCP – Associação Rede de Competência em Polímeros, Raquel Fernandes. The moderator was the coordinator of UCCCB, Paula Vasconcelos Morais.
