The International Microorganism Day 2025 is celebrated with an international stream

As part of the celebrations for International Microorganism Day on September 17, the stream “Conexões (Luso)Microbianas’25 – Conversas de Ciência em Português” (Luso-Microbial Connections ’25 – Science Conversations in Portuguese) took place. This broadcast was organized by the MicroEnvTec group of microbiologists from DCV-CEMMPRE, in partnership with the Rede Lusófona de Microbiologia and the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT) of NOVA University Lisbon, where Paula Vasconcelos Morais (UC) and Miguel Viveiros (IHMT-NOVA) were the hosts.

The broadcast aimed to present the work of various teachers, researchers, and students within the Portuguese-speaking world in the field of microbiology. This initiative, sponsored by the Portuguese Society of Microbiology (SPM), provided a “5 minutes of fame” opportunity to showcase published articles, scientific projects, and/or relevant results from academic research conducted by various national institutions and members of the Network. For anyone interested, the stream is available on the SPM YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcO6M789U4Q.

On the same day, Paula Vasconcelos Morais was also a guest at the Pontos nos iii – Science Beer Talks cycle, promoted by UC Exploratório, in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of the University of Coimbra (iiiUC), with the theme “International Microorganism Day: whoever has a microbe has everything.” Designed and implemented in an informal and relaxed conversation format, the cycle’s main objective was to raise awareness, in an accessible way, of the research carried out at the University of Coimbra, preferably for audiences outside academia.
